There is no doubt that Sarah Silverman's star is definitely on the rise. From stand-up comedy to film and television, Sarah has seen her share of success and things are only beginning for this talented young actress. The feature length film version of her one-woman show Jesus is Magic" will be distributed by Roadside Attractions opening in theaters November 11th. Directed by Liam Lynch and filmed before a live crowd in Los Angeles in September of 2004 the film garnered rave reviews at both the SXSW Film Festival and the Aspen Comedy Festival. The stage version of the show played to sold out crowds in New York and LA.. The Los Angeles Times called "Jesus" "Savagely effective, as ruthlessly provocative as anything since the heyday of Lenny Bruce."
Currently, she can be seen in the documentary feature, The Aristocrats in which 100 of the industry's most prominent comedians tell a version of the same joke. Silverman also lends her voice to the hugely successful Comedy Central show, "Crank Yankers." She was last seen starring opposite Jack Black, Mike White and John Cusack in "The School of Rock" for Paramount. Sarah has guest starred in a slew of acclaimed and notable shows, such as The Larry Sanders Show, Seinfeld, Mr. Show with Bob and David, Star Trek Voyager and Jag. She also spent a one-year stint as a writer and featured player on Saturday Night Live. As a comedian, Sarah progressed from open mic nights, to appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman and Late Night With Conan O'Brien. She also co-starred on the FOX comedy Greg The Bunny opposite Eugene Levy.
Sarah has also co-starred in a number of films, including the blockbuster There's Something About Mary, The Way of The Gun, Ivan Reitman's Evolution, The Bachelor, and Say It Isn't So.
Sarah grew up in New Hampshire and attended New York University. It was around this time that she began to pursue the Manhattan comedy scene and logged as much time in the comedy clubs as she did in the classroom. In 1993 she joined "Saturday Night Live" and has not stopped working ever since. Her talent as a writer has come in handy not only for television and stage, but also for witty and insightful essay work. As a result, Sarah's words have graced the pages of Esquire, Playboy and Penthouse. Sarah was also named to Maxim's "Hot 100" list for 2003, Entertainment Weekly's "IT" List for 2002, and Rolling Stone's "Hot Lust" for 2002. But if this "It" girl ever has some time aside from performing and writing, chances are you can find this avid basketball player on the court shooting hoops. And although Sarah has spent most of her life on the East Coast, she now calls Los Angeles home.
